Please do your bit this holiday weekend

-

It has been great hasn’t it? Being able, that is, to meet up and socialise with friends outdoors again as the restrictions of lockdown have eased.

Of being able to mix with pals for a coffee or a pint. Even if sometimes the chilly Spring temperatures have been even colder than the beer!

But with a return towards something akin to ‘normality’ comes the need for great responsibility. To stick to the rules and respect the expert guidance.

And that should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind as we approach the first Bank Holiday weekend since many of our bars reopened.

Understandably, our NHS workers want the message to get through to all of those planning on going out and enjoying themselves over the holiday period. It’s a simple plea. Three short words. Do. Your. Bit.

That means enjoying a drink but not to the excessive stage where you run the risk of adding to the burden of NHS staff still in the midst of fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

How depressing would it be if, come Tuesday, we are having to report on drunken assaults on our emergency services personnel or A&E departments having to cope with a rise in alcohol-fuelled attendees? We hope that isn’t the case. And frankly, it shouldn’t be.

A Bank Holiday weekend is always an ideal time to meet up with friends and family. So if you’re planning on going out, then have a good time but stick to the limits and think of others, particularly those working on the frontline.

Do your bit.
