Boxer Kiaran to represent GB in Lithuania
Great Britain international 52kg flyweight Kiaran Macdonald is continuing his training programme from Monday to Thursday weekly at the Sheffield Institute of Sport.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Sunderland Amateur Boxing Club member has not been involved in any competitions for over seven months but is now ready to get back in the ring.
However, he has been selected to represent Great Britain in Lithuania in the European Boxing Confederation’s Socikas tournament, to be contested from tomorrow to Sunday.
It will be a warm-up for Kiaran for the world championships to be held in Serbia in October and the 2022 Commonwealth Games to be hosted by Birmingham next summer.
Kiaran, a two-time England Boxing Elite National Championships winner, having picked up gold in both 2016 and 2017, is still a regular at his home club in Sunderland and is always keen to pass on his experience to young boxers aspiring to follow in his footsteps.
The Millfield fighter has been a member of the Sunderland club since a very young age, following on from the likes of Tony Jeffries, Isaac Macleod and Warren Baister to represent Great Britain at the highest level.
The club are now back training and looking forward to the new season after the long lay-off forced on them by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
They are already preparing for a visit to the York Hall in London to take on the capital’s Repton Boxing club.
