A firm has come up with ‘afternoon tea for men’ in a new treat designed for Father’s Day.

Seaham Tarts Traybakes has unveiled “The Father’s Day Gentleman’s Box” which company founder Ni cola Ward described as ‘an array of food products for the discerning food connoisseur dad’.

The afternoon tea with a twist features beer brownies, Yorkshire Pudding wraps with beef and horseradish, home made pork crackling, and cheese scones with wild garlic sourced from Hawthorn Dene.

Tarts and Traybakes founder Nicola only started the business during lockdown after losing her job in aviation and said the box was designed to be a present for a dad who is hard to buy for.

“I know myself for my own father, he can be a pa into buy a present for as heh as just about everything, but he loves his food and drink and I have designed this afternoon tea with fathers out there in mind.

"It is all home made and we hope it appeals to the male market. Often afternoon teas are not associated with men, but we hope to change the outlook on this with the Gentleman’s Box. I don’t think we have seen anything quite like it before.”

The contents include 2 Yorkshire pudding pinwheel wraps, a steak andale pie, a curried sausage roll, a cheese and wild garlic scone, beer brownie and a Mexican chocolate cupcake.

The package also includes a tub of home pickled shallots, two pieces of Rolo caramel homemade fudge, dark chocolate bark with various mint flavoured sweets and a cone of home cooked salt and pepper pork crackling, The Father’ s Day Gentleman’ s Box costs £15 which includesdelivery within 10 miles of Seaham.

Tarts and Traybakes have been in operation since October 2020 and have previously hit the headlines for their match day pies for Sunderland fans.

The firm launched a Cheesy Chips Match day pie in celebration of Sunderland’ s appearance in the Papa John’s Trophy final against Tranmere Rovers.

Nicola said at the time: “We thought the idea of a home deliveryservice of a match day pie to those watching the match at home on TV might help lift everyone’ s spirit sin the present climate.”

The Father’ s Day Gentleman’ s boxes are being delivered on either Saturday, June 19 or Sunday, June 20.
