Arrested men released from police custody
Northumbria Police have provided an update on their investigation after two men were arrested at Argyle Square.
Officers were called to the street in Ashbrooke at about 11.30am on Monday, after receiving information that a vehicle believed to be associated withaburglarywasreportedat the location.
Police attended and ‘uplifted’ the vehicle, prompting a man to show threatening behaviour towards officers.
A heavy response was dispatched to the scene and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Northumbria Police have confirmed on Tuesday that both have been released from police custody on bail as officers continue to carry out their inquires.
Uniformedofficerswearing protectiveequipmentcouldbe seen outside an address on the street, along with a variety of police vehicles and dog handlers.
Resident Patrick James, who watched the events unfold, told the Echo: "I saw the gentleman behind the wall, shouting at the coppers and waving his arms about.
"About20minuteslater,the police officer turned up with the battering ram and went into Argyle Square."
Speakingaftertheincident, a spokesperson for the force said: "At about 11.30am today, officers received information that a vehicle believed to be associated with a burglary suspect was parked in the Argyle Square area of Sunderland.
"Police attended the location and uplifted the vehicle. Anindividualinsideanaddress began to make threats.
"A 31-year-old man was arrestedonsuspicionofburglary and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray.”
