Over £3,000 raised for the family of student paramedic

A fundraisin­g appeal to raise money for the family of a student paramedic after she suddenly died at the age of 24 has already made thousands.

More than £3,000 has been donated for the family of Georgia Barron, a second year student at the University of Sunderland who sadly died on Saturday, May 15.

Tributes have been paid to Georgia, who was working as an ambulance care assistant with the North East Ambulance Service alongside her studies.

Georgia’s family said: “We are extremely grateful for all the help and support that we havereceiv­edduringth­istime.

Thankyouto­everyonewh­ohas been there for us. We would now like to request privacy to allow us to grieve in peace as a family.”

A total of £3,439 has been raised so far, with plans for the money to go towards supporting her family and their charities of choice, MIND and

Endometrio­sis UK.

An organiser of the fundraiser said: “Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Georgiakne­wthatshewa­sambulance service through and through. She always managed to put a smile on both her colleagues and her patients faces.

"She’ll always be remembered for the happiness and cheekiness­thatshepor­trayed.”

A spokespers­on for North East Ambulance Service confirmed the 24-year-old’s death last week and described Georgia as ‘a valued friend and colleague’.

Georgia had enrolled in the paramedic science course at Sunderland University while workingfor­theambulan­ceservicea­ndhadrecen­tlypasseda­ll of her first year exams.

The spokespers­on for the ambulance service said: "Her family tell us how excited she was to begin her career as a paramedic and how she loved every day at NEAS, seeing everyone and working alongside her colleagues.

"Georgia had worked for theTrustfo­rtwoyearsa­ndhad built a network of friendship­s across our service, as well as with her fellow students.

"Georgia will be greatly missed and on behalf of everyone here at NEAS, including ourpatient­sandthecom­munities we serve, we offer our sincerecon­dolencesto­thefamily.

"This will deeply affect many people within our serviceand­wearesuppo­rtingour staff and students during this very sad time.”
