Bowlers shine as batsmen struggle to cope with ball

Hetton Lyons won by 70 runs in a low scoring match, at home to Whitburn in the Dukes ECB North East Premier League.

The home side batted first, but Matthew Muchall claimed (4-18), Chris Greaves also bowled well to claim 3-41, in a final total of 125 all out.

However, in reply, the visitors collapsed to 55 all out, thanks to Ben Whitehead claiming 4-4, for his team to claim a 70 run win.

Chester-le-Street are second, following a close draw at home to Benwell Hill, who batted first. Openers Mohsin Mukhtar (42) and James Schofield (52), put on 74 runs for the first wicket with Phillip Bell adding (35), in a final total of 190-7,with Amaan UlHaq claiming 3-56.

In reply, Cestrians skipper John Coxon made 57 and Quinten Hughes 32, as Rory Hanley did his best with 3-30 and Mohsin Mukhtar 4-24 to win the game, and the match went to the final ball and the home side finished on 186-9.

Burnmoor are up to third, following a six wicket win at home to Sacriston. The visitors totalled 109 all out, with Jonny Bushnell making 32 and Martin Hubber adding 29, while Josh Coughlin claimed a brilliant 5-19. The home side collected the win soon after, as Allan Worthy (28) and Ryan Pringle (27) eased them home on 110-4, despite Nathan Bushnell taking 3-28.

E pp let on pulled off a much needed win against Burn op field. However, they only made 108 all out, thanks to opener Kyle Davis who top scored with 65 runs, while Jacques Du Toit claimed 5-32 and Ben Robinson 3-30.

Sad af Hussain, who bowled a brilliant spell of 6-12, ed his side to a two run win, as the home side finished on 106 all out, despite Du Toit with 34 and Mitchell Killeen 37, putting on 47 runs for the fourth wicket, the home side fell two runs short.

Washington had a losing, but commendabl­e draw at new leaders South North. A second wicket partnershi­p between Solomon Bell (33) and Michael Richardson (69), got them away and Chris Hewison added 43 runs in a final total of 225-7 declared.

Sean Tindale then ripped open the opposition batting, claiming an impressive 6-21, but James Thompson resisted with 36 and Joe Thompson 31, as they battled for the draw on 115-8.

Dukes ECB North East Division One

Philadelph­ia have now had back-to-back wins, following their 70 run win at Blaydon.

Phili scored 205-5 thanks to 78 from Shaun Haux well, while Peter Green well jnr and Sha hid Khan each added 39 runs.

The home side could not cope with Ma yank Mish ra who took 5-20 and were 135 all out, with only Joseph Reynolds resisting with 45.

Sunderland lost to Castle Eden at Ashbrooke by 70 runs. The visitors totalled 234-6, as Jonathan Malkin (56), Lewis Williams (77) and Keith Bailey (44 no) pi led up the runs. Opener Ben Shurben led the fight back with 76, but Ryan Ball with 6-23 off 15 overs won the game for the visitors as the home side were all out for 164.

Lanchester recorded their first win of the season with an excellent win at Crook, as Callum Barnes took 4-32 and Cameron Metcalfe 3-15, in the home sides 148 all out, as Steve Chapman (33) and Stuart Newton (42), did the scoring. Graham Brint on then made an unbeaten 50 and Greg Patterson added 32, in a winning 64 run partnershi­p to steer their side to 152-7.

Bottom club Boldon lost by 98 runs at Gateshead Fell, as the home side scored 159 all out, thanks to Richard Smith making 44, while Joseph Maddison took 4-32. Sam Roseby then took 6-26 from 13.3 overs, as the visitors slumped to 61 all out.

Readers Durham & Northeast Cricket League: Division One

South Shields lost by seven wickets at home to Marsden and were all out for just 78, as Steven Neilson claimed (4-22) and Ryan Little returned figures of (4-22). For the visitors Owen Peterson and Patrick Jackson both scoring 23 runs each, to get their side home on 80-3.

Brandon scored a massive 264 all out, as Gordon Muchall (85) and Matthew Brown (71), against Durham City, while Dom Scott claimed 5-60 and Jack Sissons 3-59. City opener Nick Howe then scored 59, and then Adam May smashed 60 from 45 balls, but Callum Appleby claimed 4-26 as the visitors were all out for 212.

Dawdon Welfare racked up 250-6, at home to Ushaw Moor. Kit Allen made an excellent 109 from 97 balls, while Steven Gale added 33. Ushaw were then 78 all out in reply, as David Coates claimed 5-42 and Tahir Mahmood 4-14.

Division Two

Ryhope won again, at home to Tudhoe and the visitors were 21-4 at one stage, eventually making just 79 all out with James Curry top scoring on 31, while Jack Tomlin claimed 4-26. Matthew Kirtley then hammered 48 not out from 38 balls to finish the game on 80-1.

Murton collapsed to 45 all out at home to league leaders Seaham Harbour, with Nisala Tharaka claiming 5-19 and Regan Pattison returning figures of 3-4. Harbour then cantered to 46-2.

Evenwood batted first at Hunwick and made 231-6, thanks to Joshua James who smashed 150 not out from 115 balls. The home side then made 143 all out, with Aaron Proud scoring 54, while Thomas Tees dalesnr claimed 4-17.

Peterlee won at home to Horden by 105 runs. They posted 170 all out, with Alan Anderson scoring 30 and Kieron Buck hammered 42 late on, while Adam Dixon claimed 3-14. Horden never got going and were all out for just 65 runs, as Andrew La idler claimed 3-16 and Scott Birks 4-12.

Easington won their first game of the season in defeating Tudhoe seconds by eight wickets.
