Vera spotted on the case in city
A Sulgrave flatblock was the backdrop for TV detective Vera as film crews filmed scenes for the new series.
Filming took place at Marlborough Park Complex in Sulgrave, Washington on Thursday, May 27 as part of work on the 11th series of the ITV detective show.
TV crews filmed around the complex of flats on Thursday morning, with star Brenda Blethyn spotted on the outdoor landings of the flatblock.
Filming of the six feature-length episodes went into production between the autumn and Christmas ready for broadcast this year.
With the remaining instalments to be shot this spring for broadcast next year.
The award-winning show is made by Silverprint Pictures, which is part of ITV Studios.
Its last series drew in an average of 7.5million viewers in the UK, while 150 territories worldwide also get to glimpse the region as the backdrop of its stories.
The TV show often features
gritty backdrops and North East landmarks and earlier this month Vera stars were spotted at Sunderland’s Civic Centre’s car park.
When the series was confirmed, Brenda Blethyn, who takes the lead role in the North East-set drama said: “I’m really looking forward to working on the next series of Vera.
"The safety of all personnel is always at the forefront of production.
"And with all the extra Covid precautions in place we will relish creating and delivering six cracking new episodes.”
The programme’s makers had to push back their
schedule due to the pandemic but have since began filming once again in the region since October last year.
The eleventh series, based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, opens when the body of well-respected local builder, Jim Tullman, is found beaten to death on the steps of the Collingwood Monument.
Kenny Doughty will return as sidekick Detective Sergeant Aiden Healy.
Actors such as Jon Morrision, who plats DC Kenny Lockhard, Riley Jones, who plays DC Mark Edwards, and Ibinabo Jack, who plays DC Jacqueline Williams, will reunite for the eleventh series.
