Toilet roll strewn across seafront promenade

-

Video footage shows the mess left on Sunderland promenade after toilet roll from public restrooms were dragged along the floor.

‘There is no need’ says Sunderland City Council as they share the video and pictures of the mess on social media.

The mess was caused just days after teams worked tirelessly to prepare the coastline for the Bank Holiday weekend – cleaning benches, tidying shrub beds and preparing the reopening of the pier.

After weeks of bleak weather, Sunderland was finally able to enjoy some sunshine over the bank holiday weekend.

But days later, on Tuesday evening (June 1), toilet paper was left scattered along the promenade and those responsible have been condemned by the council who then had to clear the mess.

The council is also appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to report it on their website at www.sunderland.gov.uk/ report-it

A spokesman for Sunderland City Council said: “There is no need, last Friday we posted a video of our crews working hard cleaning the seafront in preparation for people visiting over the bank holiday weekend.

“Last night (Tuesday) somebody decided to use the toilet rolls out of the public toilets and make this mess along the promenade.

"Not only is this unacceptable behaviour, it also has a negative image on the environment and spoils it for people from visiting our beautiful seafront . If you have any information on this or any other incidents of antisocial behaviour please use our 24-hour reporting service.”
