Seafront becoming a go-to destination

-

We’ve watched it rise from the ground for many months – and now it’s ready to open its doors.

Built on the site of the old Pullman Lodge, the new £6million Seaburn

Inn is a welcome addition to Sunderland’s seafront.

With 40 rooms, including 24 offering scenic seaside views, it is hoped it will bring a further boost to our coastline following the success of other projects such as the STACK development.

The opening of the new hospitality complex, which adds a new pub and restaurant offering to the seafront, has created 55 jobs. Welcome news in these times.

Now, as it prepares to welcome its first customers on Monday, those in charge of the new venture hope it will help put our beautiful seafront firmly on the tourist map and be enjoyed not just by those living on the doorstep but also those travelling from further afield.

With further projects in the pipeline for the coast – including the creation of a seafront restaurant in a former shelter in Seaburn, a new gin bar in former toilet blocks in Roker and beach huts – it feels like exciting times for the area.

Tourism provides a great tonic to our local economy. More visitors means more trade for our local businesses. The invite is there for others to come and enjoy it too.

These developments we’re seeing as part of the wider Seafront Regeneration Scheme all help make it a go-to destination.

And while we might not be able to guarantee the sun, we can always promise a warm welcome!
