'I have a knife and will stab him' – woman told police after 10 pints
A boozy girlfriend was heard by police warning “I have a knife and will stab him” during a row with her incapacitated boyfriend.
Melissa Eastick, 34, had drunk 10 pints of cider when she made the threat at his home in The Village, Ryhope, Sunderland.
Police responding to a call from the property caught her making the remark as they entered on Sunday, February 2 last year, a court heard.
A previous hearing in April was told they were forced to pull out their Tasers when confronted by Eastick, of Stockton Terrace, Sunderland city centre.
And it was said the man was unable to flee due to being in a wheelchair or having a broken leg.
Eastick has now been handed an 18-month community order and must pay fines and court costs of £275 after admitting common assault.
Prosecutor Leanne Duffy told South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court: “They had been in a relationship for four months and were living together.
“They were at the victim’s address. She had consumed ten pints of cider and he had had three or four.
“Everything was fine until he received a text message from an ex-partner.
“He asked her to leave, which she did, but she returned at about 7pm and was again asked to leave. This time she refused. He told her that he would call the police, and he dialled the 101 number.
“When he was on the phone, she threatened to push him down the stairs.
“She threatened to stab him and said, ‘I have a knife and will stab him’.
“He said that he couldn’t defend himself because of injuries he had.”
Jason Smith, defending, gave no defence after magistrates indicated they would go along with the recommendations of a Probation Service report.
They handed Eastick the community order, and ordered her to pay a £100 fine, £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
Magistrates at the April hearing were told she disputed parts of the evidence, including picking up the knife and making threats.
She pleaded guilty but the case was listed for an evidential Newton hearing last November, which she failed to attend. Magistrates found the prosecution case of events proven in her absence.
