Roseberry Park come out on top in battle of division two’s top two

The match of the day in the SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday League Second Division was when the top two clubs met and it was second placed Roseberry Park FC who edged out leaders Hetton Lyons FC 2-1.

Andrew Elliott and Josh Dickinson netted for the Roseberry Park outfit, with Kyle Davis replying for the Lyons FC.

Horden Legion maintained their promotion aspiration­s after winning an eight-goal thriller against Easington Victory, thanks to an Ethan Maddison brace, along with efforts from Morgan Hunter, Philip Robinson and Ellis Dunn. Stephen Fletcher (2) and Ian Craggs replied for Victory.

Club to take the points in their 5-3 win over derby rivals Horden United, while the other game played in the division finished 2-2 when Haswell Oddfellows took on Seaham Oddfellows Arms.

In the third round of the Durham County Sunday Cup, a goal from Jordan Garside was enough to see Easington Lane WMC through following their 1-0 win over Hebburn Sports Club, while a brace from Robbie Bird helped Dawdon Welfare Park make progress following their 4-0 win over Blackhall CC.

In the Premier Division, Easington CIU completed their programme with a resounding 6-1 win against Shotton Comrades, thanks to a brilliant hat trick from Liam Adamson. They will finish runners-up if Dawdon Welfare Park fail to win their final game of the season.

In the First Division, Peterlee Helford United lost ground in their bid to finish runners-up when they lost 4-1 to Horden JD’s Bar, with Kyle Johnson notching a double, with further goals came from Daniel Sennett and Reece Brymer. Matthew Smith netted a consolatio­n goal for the Helford, who finished with ten men following a straight red for Danny Naylor.

A five-goal encounter saw

Wingate Howden come out on top when defeating Sherburn United, with Josh Pettler, Martin Mason and Thomas Young on target.

Seaham Parkside had little trouble in beating Thornley Harrys Bar 5-1.

Two goals apiece from Jonathan Malkin and Michael Charlton helped Seaham the Knack to pick up a point when they finished all square at 4-4 against Peterlee Hearts.
