Fans divided on whether club should try and sign Jordan Jones
Sunderland fans are divided over whether the Black Cats should look to sign Jordan Jones on a permanent deal this summer.
The Rangers winger joined Sunderland in January and went on to make 21 appearances and scored three goals as the Black Cats missed out on promotion to the Championship.
As part of our Big SAFC Survey, we asked readers whether they would like to see Jones arrive on a permanent deal this summer following his loan spell from Scottish giants Rangers.
More than 1,300 readers took part in our questionnaire.
The results were mixed, though, when it came to Jones’ future on Wearside.
Our survey revealed 55% of fans would like to see Jones return this summer and felt he had shown enough quality during his five-month loan stint to warrant a permanent move to the Stadium of Light.
However, 45% felt he had not done enough during his loan stint to show he was worth pursuing further as head coach Lee Johnson looks to revamp his squad ahead of another season in League One.
Last week Jones thanked Sunderland fans for their support and wished the club all the best in the future.
The 26-year-old joined the Black Cats on loan from Rangers in January and made 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times and providing four assists.
Jones wasn’t playing regularly at Rangers so could be set for another move this summer, yet a return to Wearside appears unlikely.
The Northern Ireland international has posted the following message: “Good luck to @SunderlandAFC for the future.
"A massive club which I loved playing for. Thank you for the opportunity and a big thank you to the fans for all the love and support since I arrived. I look forward to seeing the club where it belongs in the future. Thank you.”
Jones’ best performance in a Sunderland shirt came during a 2-0 win against Portsmouth, where he scored and provided an assist at Fratton Park.
Sunderland released seven first team players as part of their retained list with another major rebuild on the cards this summer on Wearside.
Sunderland have now failed to win promotion three years on the spin and will need to maintain a sustained promotion push in 2021-22.
