TikTok star puts city in spotlight
A TikTok star with almost half a million followers has shared clips of his holiday to sunny Sunderland as he praises the city and its ‘beautiful’ seafront.
The Rotherham dad-oftwo, who goes by the name Big Chubby on TikTok and social media, is known for sharing videos of family life, jokes and his motivational speeches.
As lockdown restrictions eased, Wayne Duplock and wife Paula headed to the Grand Hotel in Seaburn for a much-needed trip away.
Sharing clips of them enjoying the pool and admiring the sea view from his hotel room window, the social media star praised the city and its seafront.
He even turned to his 436,000 followers for tips on what to do when he visited the area, with dozens telling him to make the most of the North East’s beaches in the nice weather.
He told his followers: "So we've arrived in Sunderland, and I'm quite impressed so far. I’m sat in my chair in my hotel room it’s a lovely hotel, very nice, and check out this
view, you can't complain.
"So far I'm quite impressed with Sunderland, it has exceeded my expectations."
‘Vlogging’ (video blogging) their trip, Wayne and Paula visited Seaburn arcades, Latimers for a homemade lemonade and Souter Lighthouse on the recommendation of his followers.
"This place is absolutely beautiful, you've got the lighthouse, the ocean, freshly cut grass – it's so peaceful," he said. “When you’re busy and you’ve got the stresses and strains of life sometimes it’s just nice to be somewhere like this and clear your head.”
On the second day of his trip, Big Chubby shared videos on Tik Tok of a visit to South Shields where he visited Ocean Beach Pleasure Park and the famous Colemans Fish and Chip restaurant on Ocean Road based on his followers’ recommendations.
And following his trip to the North East, Big Chubby, who is known for his signature phrase Shoobydoo, admits he can’t wait to return for another holiday to Seaburn.
He said: "It's one of the best places we have visited and we have done a lot of travelling. I think it's turned into our number one place to visit. I am very much looking forward to returning."
