-

Washington-born boxer Luke McCormack has secured a place at Tokyo 2021 after victory over Turkey’s Tugrulhan Erdemir.

A triumphant day in Paris saw five members of the GB Boxing squad secure Olympic qualification as Charley Davison, Caroline Dubois, Lauren Price, McCormack and Ben Whittaker guaranteed their places for Tokyo.

Victories for Frazer Clarke and Cheavon Clarke, who are now one win away from Tokyo 2021, and already qualified Galal Yafai completed a superb day for the GB Boxing team which won all eight of its bouts.

It means Great Britain now has seven boxers guaranteed to compete at this summer’s Olympic Games with the opportunity of four more joining them today – Luke’s twin, Pat, is in action this afternoon.

The triumphant Saturday began with a victory for McCormack who overcame a strong challenge from Erdemir to secure a split decision win in his lightweight contest to become the third member of the GB Boxing squad to secure his place at Tokyo 2021.

He will face Enrico Lacruz, of Netherlands, in the next round of the tournament.

A total of 77 places at Tokyo

2021 are up for grabs at the Paris tournament.

The final 13 places – eight male and five female – available to boxers from Europe will be allocated by a ranking system.

Although boxers will secure Olympic qualification at different stages in the Paris tournament, the competition will continue through to medal stages and a final in all 13 weight classes.
