Hats off to the Leather Cap as 4-0 victory prompts promotion party

The SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday Football League’s final fixtures of the season were played last weekend, with promotion and relegation places being largely confirmed.

Due to a few clubs not completing the season for Covid-19 reasons, though, final placings and the compositio­n of each division won’t be confirmed until the league’s annual general meeting.

In the First Division, Easington Leather Cap were crowned champions after they defeated runners-up Horden JD’s Bar 4-0, thanks to a brace from leading scorer Jordan Williams and other goals from Jack Maskell and sub Ewan James.

Seaham Marlboroug­h ended a strong late run and surge of winning results with a 7-1 win against Thornley Harry’s Bar. Lewis Williamson got a hat-trick, Sean Rollin scored two and further goals were supplied by Ben Lawson and Chris Dorman, with Jack Ward replying.

A Michael Kennedy hat trick, plus two goals from Dean Bulmer and one from Dan Simpson, saw Seaham Parkside beat Peterlee Hearts 6-4.

Peterlee Helford finished their campaign in fourth place after a 5-2 win over Sherburn United, thanks to a brace from Thomas Gilling and efforts from Matthew Smith, Conner Elves and Dan Bedding.

In the Second Division, champions Roseberry Park ended their season in great style by thumping Horden Legion 6-0, with a hat-trick from substitute John Brown, along with strikes from Tom Lawson, Niall Stephen and Andrew Elliott.

Hetton Lyons are also promoted, finishing runners-up after a 12-0 win over Peterlee Acre Rigg Social Club, with Darren Richards, Kieran Bridon and Matty Wray all firing in hattricks and Jon Weirs adding a brace and Joe Mence completing the scoring.

A five-goal encounter ended with Ea sing ton Victory getting the better of Horden Labour Club by winning 3-2, with James Pittam, Michael Fortune and Dan Salmon all on target and Simon Hall and John Dale responding.

Seaham Oddfellows were awarded three points due to opponents Ea sing ton Welfare being unable to field a side.

All eyes will be on Dawdon Welfare Park on Sunday as they contest the final of the Durham County Sunday Cup against Greenside.
