Blooming lovely hospice boost
Hospice supporters in Sunderland have been adding a splash of colour to their fundraising efforts.
St Benedict’s Hospice’s annual Wear Yellow Day saw staff, volunteers and patients taking part in support of the hospice’s fourth annual Sunflower Appeal, which is running throughout June.

The annual Sunflower Appeal raises awareness for St Benedict’s Hospice in Ryhope, which relies on donations.
About one in three people in the city, be it themselves, a relative or a friend, have benefited at some point from the crucial palliative care it provides.
The past year has been incredibly challenging for the charity that supports St Benedict’s Hospice with planned nearly all fund-raising events and activities postponed or cancelled due to Covid-19, along with their charity shops which only reopened fully in April.
Emma Heslington, the charity’s community fundraising manager, said: “It was fantastic to see so many of the hospice team and patients taking part in Sunflower Day. We are so grateful to our incredible supporters in the region for their continued support of the hospice and the care we provide for local patients and their families.”
Businesses, community groups and schools across Sunderland are taking part in the Sunflower Appeal by hosting their own Sun flower Days during June.
