Bell’s century helps his side to big victory in crunch clash

Chester-le-Street were well beaten by South Northumber­land in the Dukes ECB North East Premier League – with the victors now leading the table by four points.

Deciding to bat first in the top-of-the-table clash, Solomon Bell hit 129 not out alongside Michael Richardson (60), as they put on 127 runs for the second wicket, setting up a declaratio­n at 247-3.

The Cestrians collapsed to 99-7, with Quentin Hughes making 37 and Josh O’Brien 38, but it was nowhere near enough thanks to Oliver McGee and Simon Birtwistle sharing six wickets in a 105-run win.

Burn moor are second, after they had Felling in all sorts of trouble, slumping to 56-5, with Ryan Pringle in the thick of the action taking 4-33 and Ross Greenwell 3-22. Paul Leonard (31no) and Abdul Ameer (26) put on 59 for the eighth wicket for a final total of 142 all out, but the home side soon made the required runs, as Allan Worthy made 59 not out and Pringle hit 70 from 52 balls to secure a six-wicket win, despite Abdul Ameer’s 3-45.

Washington batted well at Eppleton, as Thomas College made 47, Tom Sproates 56 and James Thompson 107 not out from just 68 balls, allowing them to declare on 255-3.

The home side made a good start as openers Kyle Davis (48) and Chris Mann (69) put on 80 for the first wicket, then Sam Dinning added 32, Ryan Downes 37 and Jake Pratt ended 33 not out to see their side to a four-wicket win.

Sacri st on lost regular wickets at home to Whitburn, but Martin Hubber made 45 and Andrew Dixon 40, to help them to 209 all out, with Kieran Waterson taking 3-23. The visitors then collapsed to 38-5, as Jack Keall (4-22)ripped out the heart of the batting. Luke Husband then claimed 3-16 as they were all out for 86.

Hetton Lyons did not make the best start at Burnopfiel­d, as Matthew Oswell (4-38) and Tom Foster(2-9) struck hard, but Ben Mckinney dug in for 50 from 130 balls, to get them to 146 all out.

However, Lyons fought back with Karl Turner (7-38) and Chris Ralston (3-21) earning them a 26-run win.

Sunderland are now in pole position at the top of Division One, after they started well batting first against Newcastle at Ashbrooke. Greg Applegarth made 78, while Micky Allan scored 31. They slowed up as Jesse Tashkoff claimed 4-62, but Safyaan Sharif hit 46 off 50 balls to declare on 226-6. Sharif then claimed5-32alongsid­e Hamza Tahir, who took 3-14, bowling the visitors out for 114.

Willington are two points behind in second, as they drew at Philadelph­ia. Pete Bhabra (68) and Jamie D ass (113 no ), put on 105 runs for the first wicket. Cameron O’Donnell added 34 in a final total of 267-7, as Mayank Mishra claimed 3-62.

Phili in reply, had Shaun Smith scoring 74, Peter Greenwell jnr 31, Dan Pearson 30 and Shahid Khan 36, as they made 258-8 to claim the draw.

Castle Eden drop to third, after losing at home to Shotley Bridge. Joe Gibson took 6-39 as the home side batted first and Jason Moses had to dig in for 31, but they were all out for 141.

In reply, Ross Burden scored 31 and Ross Andrews 28, to see their side home on 145-7, despite 3-30 from Keith Bailey.

Boldon batted first at home to Lanchester with 37 from Nicholas Sampson-Barnes and 35 from Sy ed A bid, but they collapsed from 102-4 to 116 all out, as Call um Barnes claimed 4-35 and Pasindu Madushan 3-39.

The visitors won by four wickets, thanks to Graham Brinton who hit 25, as Syed Abid countered with 3-16.

In the Durham& North East Cricket League Division One, Durham City struggled at leaders Sea ham Park and were all out for 91, as Bradley Robinson claimed 4-24 and Dale Shaw 3-18. Seaham wasted no time in getting the required runs, as Virat Singh smashed 50 not out from 39 balls in the eightwicke­t win.

South Shields are second, a point behind the leaders, as they batted first at Dawdon Welfare, with Chris Rainbow scoring 93 and Sam Embleton 52 in a total of 229 all out, as Ryan Consitt took 4-38.

Steven Gale made 57 and Craig Price 41 in reply, but Tharusha Fernando took 5-28 as Dawdon were all out for 139.

Brandon are third, after losing at home to Hylton who made 186 all out, thanks to Javon Grosvenor (42) and Marlon Black (35), while Jamie Robinson claimed 4-34.

The home side then collapsed to 53-5, as Anthony Brown-took-4-28-and-then-Marlon Black claimed 4-35, as the home side ended up 145 all out.

Marsden are fourth, after a massive 189-run win at Bill Quay.

They made 277 all out and then bowled the hosts out for just 88.

In Division Two, Seaham Harbour batted at home to Tudhoe and made 248-8, thanks to Ian Pattison, who scored 95 and Nisala Gamage (62), as they put on 127 runs for the third wicket, while Kieran Gillham claimed 4-51. Cort Lynn then made 69 in reply and James Curry added 56 not out, as they finished on 228-5.

Ry hope won by five wickets at Peter lee, after the home side had scored 183-9, with Joseph Spalding hitting 85.

In reply, Ryhope opener Paul Jenkin made 55 and Sagar Udeshi 46.

Hunwick batted first at home to Horde na nd made 1588, thanks to Chris Pratt, with 34, and Nick Dalton’s 44, while Evan Roberts took 3-29.

The visitors made a positive reply, with Jamie Forbes making 34 runs and Jonathon L ons dale added 35, to see them home to victory on 159-6, despite Adam Young taking 4-39.

Boldon CA made a good start at Silksworth, with Jason Jones scoring 68, Conor Elliott 65, Adam Slater 36 and Sam Sanderson 46 not out, in a score of 259-7, with Scott Davison taking 4-51.

The home side were never in it after losing early wickets, as Stuart Smith claimed 4-21, and were all out for 71.
