Graham is excited for Hundred challenge
Phoebe Graham is hoping the best part of three months playing T20 and 100-ball cricket will progress her game as a fast bowler.
Seamer Graham is relishing the challenge that comes with bowling in the batterdominated short formats, starting with the Regional T20 competition for the Northern Diamonds, ahead of the Hundred, in which she will play for the Leeds-based Northern Superchargers.
That new competition will bring some potentially complex rule changes, including bowlers being able to bowl five-ball, or 10-ball overs.
But Graham is determined to take a simple approach to bowling against some of the best batters in the world.
“I love T20, and I’m sure I will love the Hundred as well,” said the 29-year-old.
“For me, it’s that ‘every ball counts’ aspect which is so exciting.
“I think the Hundred will improve the 20-over and 50-over competitions, because you are going to have to get used to focusing on that one delivery because it has to be right.
“There isn’t as much margin for error.
“I’m certainly seeing it that way with my own game.
“I guess you have to take each ball at a time more than you would in 50-over cricket and reset.
“It’s actually been one of the biggest changes in my life recently, not just my cricket. Trying to focus on the here
and now. Look at today and not tomorrow.
“Breaking that down into my cricket, it’s been about focusing on ball by ball and not over by over.
“It’s about getting that ball right and then you can think
about the next delivery.”
