-

An supermarket worker in Sunderland is celebrating an anniversary milestone this month after working at the same firm for 20 years.

Angela James, an assistant at Aldi’s Carley Hill Road store in the city, first joined the supermarket chain in 2001.

She started off as a cleaner at the Hylton Riverside store before progressing to her current role back in 2006.

Sandy Mitchell, regional managing director of Aldi UK, said that, over the years, Angela has gone above and beyond her typical store duties by taking part in a range of fund-raising activities, including an in-store cycle to help raise money for the firm’s dedicated charity, The Teenage Cancer Trust.

Speaking about her long service, Angela said: “It has been a privilege to work at Aldi for 20 years.

"I’ve loved working here and want to thank all the customers and my amazing colleagues who make it such a great place to come to work every day.”

When asked about her favourite products at Aldi, Angela said: “It has got to be the Lentil Baked Crisps. They are my go-to snack.”

Mr Mitchell added: “Without the hard work and dedication of our store colleagues like Angela, we would not be able to provide customers with the unbeatable service Aldi is known for.

“Colleagues like Angela are the cornerstone of our business and I would like to take this opportunity thank her for her continued dedication throughout the last 20 years.

"Hopefully we will work together for many more years to come.”
