A Wearside GP surgery has paid tribute to the work of volunteers at the practice.

Twenty five local people regularly volunteer at Marlborough GP Surgery in Seaham – taking on a wide range of roles, including administration, but most notably helping to deliver the the coronavirus vaccination rollout in the area.

The volunteers take care of everything from initial paperwork distribution and organising queues at the practice to monitoring waiting areas after delivery of the vaccine.

Practice manager Lisa Finnon said “The vaccine roll-out has at times provided challenges and without the loyal and dedicated army of volunteers we simply could not have managed to achieve what we have done, they are all superstars and want to thank each and every one of them”

Vaccine marshal Malcom Thorpe, from Fullwell, said “I have really enjoyed giving up my time to work here.

"It’s really rewarding to see so many people coming forward to receive their vaccines and I’m happy to play my part in making it happen”

The practice, in the Primary Care Centre at St John’s Square, has been vaccinating patients on site since December 16 and each day the operation is led by a manager, two receptionists, at least two clinicians and a doctor as clinical lead.

Volunteers are also required each day from the community and are involved in the vaccination of up to 400 people a day.

The surgery has been celebrating the work of volunteers with dedicated features on its social media and a celebration and a thankyou gift.
