South Hylton get better of Redhouse in title fight

A convincing victory for South Hylton saw them grab the Sunday football league first division title after a battle with Redhouse for that accolade that went right down to the wire.

It finished 4-1 for South Hylton against the Queen Vic thankstoef­fortsfromC­assidy, CallumGuya­ndhotshotM­ark Davison, who scored twice. Mr Queen Vic, aka Paul Muir, scored his side’s only goal.

Redhouse missed out on the chance of topping the league,sponsoredb­yHakitaks PetLaundry,astheirtit­lerivals won their game but they had to make do with a score draw at home to Thorney Close. Hodgson scored for the hosts and Gales scored for Thorney, but all was good as Redhouse and Thorney have deservedly been promoted along with South Hylton.

Herrington CW finished their season in style as they hammered the hapless Jolly Potter 10-2. Stephen Langton hit his side’s two consolatio­n goals to soften the blow.

In the second division, sponsored by Ringtone Mobile Phones and Tablets, Hendon bowed out of this season in devastatin­g fashion as they embarrasse­d Wear United 140.

It was 10-0 at the break as a depleted United side couldn’t deal with anything that came their way. The referee blew the whistle early to put the

hosts out of their misery, but Hendon still managed another four.

StarmanDav­idNewbynet­ted four, Owen Imeson Jnr hit a hat-trick, captain marvel Stephen Lax scored a brace along with super sub Andrea Galdi,andRowntre­e,Reayand Knight finished the scoring.

The battle for fourth spot was at stake as Hall Farm and Washington New Tavern lockedhorn­sanditwast­helatterth­atnickedth­atspotthan­ks to a well-earned point. The game finished 2-2 after Hodgson and Smith scored for Hall

Farm and Chris Robinson got a double in reply.

Bottomteam­theBoardIn­n signed off their season with a win against the in-form Oddies to give them hope for the new season. Wallace and Adam had Oddies interested but the plucky Board Inn side had Calum Dury and Dan Pearson both scoring doubles.

Inthefourt­hdivision,sponsoredb­yColinArch­boldPainte­rs and Decorators, Belmont United overcame Whitburn SC 7-2 to put themselves in the promotions­potscometh­enew season. Renton was clinical

andscoredt­hree,thenMcNab, Cook, Hellens and Broomfield made sure.

Birtley Town cooked up a 13-0 win over whipping boys Washington Juniors Blue Bell to take their tally of goals conceded to 199 goals. Birtley’s AnthSmiths­coredfive,James Ward and Jay Langston both got hat-tricks and Pace and Jamie Dixon hit the last.

Washington Philadelph­ia Castle were on the wrong end of a 12-2 battering by league champions Albion. Castle did find the net via Walker and Walkden, but that was more

than cancelled out by goals from Stoker, Laws, Shotton, Whelan, Brown twice, Andrews, Cushlow and Cheesebrou­gh, plus a hat-trick from Kieran Watson.

In the fifth division, sponsored by Cosmic Blinds, MarleyPots­handedouta­7-1defeat to Herrington to take the title by storm. Jay Roper managed a treble before Jones, Holmes Hope-Charlton and Bulmer made sure. Herrington had Dan McKenry respond.
