Instinctive to make winning Move

-

Instinctive Move can successfully graduate to Listed class in the Coral Dragon Stakes at Sandown tomorrow.

The son of Showcasing looked another high-class colt for Clive Cox to go to war with when making a winning start to his career at Bath in the middle of May.

Given his trainer’s excellent record with juveniles, he was unsurprisingly prominent in the market on his racecourse debut and ultimately got the job done with a degree of comfort.

The form is not spectacular, with the runner-up and beaten favourite Poderoso having seemingly had his limitations exposed since, although the fourth home Raging has subsequently landed a minor event at Haydock.

The fact that Cox planned on running Instinctive Move in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot a couple of weeks ago suggests he is held in high regard. Unfortunately, he became upset in the starting stalls and was withdrawn as a result.

Provided the same issue does not reoccur, this looks a good opportunity for the youngster to prove his class.

Morando can bag himself a first victory since the autumn of 2019 in the Coral Marathon.

Andrew Balding’s charge has gone eight runs without success since impressing in the Cumberland Lodge at Ascot a couple of seasons ago, but has been keeping good company.

So far this term the eightyear-old has finished fourth in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester, third in the Tapster Stakes at Goodwood and sixth in the Queen Alexandra at Ascot, with stamina giving way in the latter stages of his latest two-mile-five-furlong assignment.

Dropping back to two miles on a sounder surface, Morando should make his presence felt.

The third and final Listed race of the afternoon is the Davies Insurance Services Gala Stakes, in which Euchen Glen bids to seal his second course and distance victory of the season.

The eight-year-old was something of a surprise winner of the Brigadier Gerard here in late May, but there did not appear to be any fluke about the performance.

He has since run well in defeat at Royal Ascot – beaten less than four lengths in Wolferton Stakes – and is capable of giving weight and a beating to his rivals, which include Derby runner John Leeper, on his return to Esher.

Stakes. A close-up third on his sole juvenile start at Newbury in the autumn, Roger Varian’s grey was made to pull out all the stops when justifying cramped odds on his return to action at Kempton a few weeks ago.
