Maguire's message to Cats fans after exit
Chris Maguire has thanked Sunderland fans for their supportover the last three years as he looks for a new club.
The 32-year-old joined the Black Cats from Bury in 2018 and scored 28 goals in 124 appearances during his time on Wearside. Maguire was one of several first-team players who weren’t offered a new deal at the end of last season when his contract expired.
The forward scored some memorable goals while at Sunderland, including a stunning strike against Portsmouth in the play-offs, and became a popular figure among supporters.
Despite seeing his game time reduced in his final season at the club, Maguire still scored five goals and provided five assist sin 33 League One appearances.
The player recently took to Instagram to post: “Thanks to everyone@ sunderland afc official for the past three years. I loved my time at the club and will always appreciate the support that was shown to me from the fans.”
Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic boss Nigel Adkins says that George Dobson’s character was a key reason the Addicks moved to secure his services.
The former Sunderland midfielder penned a two-year deal at the Valley and Adkins is optimistic that he can improve the ex-Walsall man.
"George is still a very young football player who has played a lot of games of football already in the Football League,” said Adkins.
“He has captained clubs he has been at. He has got the right character we are looking for–he is a combative and tenacious midfield player. He’s got lots to improve on still, which I’ve talked with him about.
“But he’s young and he’s hungry.”
