Rottweilers seized after woman injured
A woman has been injured and her dog killed after a terrifying attack by three loose Rottweilers.
Police have seized the three dogs after an attack in which the woman was injured, and her pet was mauled to death on Tuesday evening.
Officers were called to the village of Sherburn Hill, near Durham City, at about 7pm after reports that three Rottweiler dogs were loose in the street.
A woman in her 60s sustained bite injuries to her handswhilsttryingtoprotect herdogandrequiredmedical attention.
Sadly,hercavapoodiedafterbeingmauledbythethree rottweilers.
A second dog was also attacked and is receiving treatment from a vet.
With the support of neighbourhood wardens, police officers were able to contain the dogs in a garden in the nearby village of Littletown.
ThethreeRottweilerdogs are now in the care of the police while an investigation is carried out into the attack.
A 56-year-old woman has been interviewed by officers inconnectionwiththeattack andhasbeenreleasedunder investigation.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Kevin Hall, of Durham Constabulary, urged anyone who knewanythingabout the incident to come forward: “This is a shocking incident and it was especially traumatic for the woman who tried to save her pet.
“We would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 327 of July 13.
