STORY:

Members of Roker Park Model Boat Club are opposing efforts to have a safety raft for wildlife installed on the boating lake.

Hester Rose: Walked through roker Park on Friday night from roker seafront and goodness it's absolutely rotten, seriously the council needs to walk around with there eyes open and see how depressing it really is, walking up the ravine the trees need cutting back, grounds need tidying up and the pond is scruffy.

Yvonne Wilson: Pleased some one else has noticed Hester. The park is absolutely filthy. This morning scumbags filling the black bags full of sand throughout about. Never gets swept up. Must be the dirtiest park in Sunderland.

Gillian Thirlwell: We went to Morpeth Park last week it was absolutely beautiful with a large paddling pool for the kids next to a beautiful play area, just no comparison to a small market town and a city we need something like this and a leisure pool similar to waves at North Tyneside. Sunderland Council need to give us more also free 3 hrs parking in Morpeth (disc parking).

Rebecca Louise: All we have is boring pools. I miss Crowtree Leisure Centre.

Hester Rose: Go to Ridley Park at Blyth free splash pool 2 parks free parking ice cream van and coffee shop great for the kids.

Beau Emmerson: I'm on the boating clubs side. As a member of the SMES under the miniature model railway part of the club, I agree that the boats should have priority. At the end of the day, I believe the (officially named) "boating lake" is there for the model boating club and chances are, intentionally put there for the boats therefore the club is within its right to complain.

Marg Lily: Hasn’t made any difference to South Shields model boat club... Marine Park, South Shields, have an island for swans etc...looks lovely. I think it will improve Roker lake.

Steven Thirlwell: I know swans are protected but this pond isn’t suitable for them it’s quite worrying I think they would be very vulnerable and it’s such a shame that the boat club is under threat. I don’t know how long the boat club has been going for but I used to sail boats in the lake as a young kid well over 50 years ago, why this should be under threat I don’t know.
