Air ambulance tees up a golf fundraising day
Air ambulance bosses in the North East are looking for people to take a swing at some fundraising to help keep them in the air.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is inviting teams to join them for a charity golf day to raise vital funds for their service.
The event is taking place on September 2, at Barnard Castle Golf Club, where the lady captain Janet Graham has chosen GNAAS as her charity of the year.
All of the participants will receive a breakfast bun with tea or coffee on arrival at the club before a shotgun start at 10.30am with 18 holes of golf.
Competitions during the day include nearest the pin, longest drive and beat the pro.
Teams will be able to refuel after their game with a two-course dinner in the clubhouse followed by presentations and a raffle.
Andy Mawson, director of operations and paramedic at GNAAS said: “Thanks to the support of the public, we have remained operational throughout the pandemic and ensured we are there for the most critically ill and injured patients in the region.
“Unfortunately over the last year there’s been a downturn in fundraising income, so we’re hoping to see as many people as possible at our golf day."
He added: “Even if you can’t make it, there are opportunities to sponsor a hole for £100, which could potentially pay for our team to perform a life-saving blood transfusion for a patient.”
Entry costs are £240 per team of four.
