Something else... Enjoy a trip to the Orient from the comfort of home

-

We all love a Chinese takeaway on a Friday night. Visit any town or city during an evening and you are bound to come across the sizzling sounds and smells of sweet and sour or chicken chow mein noodles. But what else is out there for lovers of Oriental cuisine who fancy something a little more refined, perhaps as an extra special treat? Here are three great Oriental food kits you can cook at home.

ANGLOTHAI - THAI NEW YEAR SONGKRAN , £38 (RESTAURANT KITS)

This celebratory kit creates the iconic Khao Soi curried noodles and includes a red curry-based broth, fresh noodles, marinated chicken thighs and a crispy noodle basket and garnish, as well as Moo Ping pork skewers and a Thai dipping sauce. Don’t be fooled by your first taste as the subtle heat becomes less-so as you work your way through. The meat is delicious and tender, but you may not need the chilli oil unless you really like spice. To enhance the vibe scan the Thai Molam Spotify playlist to enjoy while you eat. EXPRESS UDON FOR TWO , £25 (KOYA)

Think Japanese, think Udon noodles and there’s nothing quite like those big handmade wriggly worms of delight anywhere else in the world. Koya keeps it simple with its express kit for two. You get ample portions of the lovely Udon along with a generous dose of wonderful fish dashi broth which has all the wonderful tastes and smells of the sea. Experiment by adding your choice of garnish, but I don’t think you need to as the flavours are already there. Beware, you’ll need a big bowl for this one. Website: koya.co.uk

FLESH & BUNS - JAPANESE FRIED CHICKEN AND BUNS, £27.50 (RESTAURANT KITS)

If you’ve never heard of or tried bao buns before you’re missing a trick. These dainty, sweet and totally moreish pillows of joy are all the rage at the moment, partly because they are so versatile and go with anything. It’s what Flesh & Buns are famous for and add to that their delicious Japanese fried chicken, it’s a gastronomical game-changer! It’s also complemented with a barbecue mayo and then some added heat with the sliced rice chilly. Believe me, you’ll be dreaming about this one for weeks. Website: restaurantkitsuk.com
