Kev calls on fans to back Boldon’s first Northern League home game

-

Boldon CA chairman Kevin Oliver has issued a rallying call for the local community to get behind the club as they prepare for their first-ever home game in the Northern League.

Durham City will be the visitors to the Villa on Saturday as decades of hard work and commitment pay off with an historic moment for the former Wearside League outfit.

They head into the game on the back of a 1-1 midweek draw against former step seven rivals Horden CW, and will hope to secure their first Northern League win against Peter Mulcaster’s side.

Ahead of the game, Oliver said: “Saturday's home game for us here at Boldon has been a long time coming - especially as I have been with the club for over 40 years, through all the highs and all the lows.

“Looking back, it has not been easy - in more recent times we've made some key ground improvements, including the introduction of a stand, floodlights, fencing, changing rooms and toilets - and lots of people have contributed over the years.

“All that I would like to say is a massive ‘thank you’ to all of the people that have helped us along the way.

“We would really appreciate your support this season.”

The Division Two weekend gets under way with a local derby when Birtley Town

host Chester-le-Street Town on Friday night.

On Saturday, Sunderland West End will check on the fitness of striker John Campbell ahead of their visit to Easington Colliery.

The news of Liam Adamson’s return means the hosts will have a fully fit and available squad.

Horden CW will look to continue their promising start to their first season back in the league when they visit Blyth Town, and Ryton & Crawcrook are targeting a third win in as many games when they travel to Brandon United.

Glen Hargrave has been ruled out of Jarrow’s trip to Newcastle University, and suspension means Jak Hanson will miss Washington’s home fixture against Esh Winning.

Willington host Redcar Town, two promotion contenders meet at Grounsell Park as Heaton Stannington face Carlisle City. Tow Law Town target a first win of the season when they travel to Billingham Synthonia.
