Coughlin among wickets as Burnmoor ease to win

Burnmoor had their lead at the top of the Dukes ECB North East Premier League cut to 30 points – despite a comfortabl­e win at Benwell Hill.

Josh Coughlin was in brilliant form, as the home side were asked to bat first.

He claimed 5-19 from 10 overs, as they were skittled out for just 81, although Finn McCreath did resist for 46 of those runs.

The visitors took their time when batting, with Allan Worthy, scoring 39, and Peter Greenwell ,39 not out, putting on 81 together for the first wicket, to get their side home by nine wickets.

Chester-le-Street also won, but struggled a bit at Tynemouth, with batsmen getting in and then not pushing on, although George Harrison did make 42. However, Graeme Hallam, with 3-38, pegged them back to 171 all out.

The home side then had to deal with John Harrison, as he claimed 5-28 to turn the match the Cestrians way. Joseph Snowdon made 37 and Hallam 30, but in the end Amaan UlHaq returned figures of 3-30 as they were all out for 129.

Washington had to dig in against some tight bowling from visitors Hetton Lyons, as they totalled 121 all out in a rain-affected game.

James Thompson top scored with 30 from 75 balls, while Ben Mckinney claimed 4-7 with the ball.

The home side fought back and claimed early wickets.

Chris Hooker (3-27) and Mark Watson (2-40) gave them a chance, but Robert Talbot made 31 not out as the visitors reached 101-5 to secure a draw.

W hit burn took a huge step to avoid relegation, as they beat Felling at home.

The visitors lost early wickets as Craig Smith claimed 4-40 and Matthew Muchall 3-20, and they were all out for just 99, with only Alasdair Appleby resisting, with 33.

The hosts took their time, but Paul Shields, with 45, and Lee Henderson, with 49, put on 97 for the first wicket, to ease them home by seven wickets and claim a crucial victory in their fight against relegation.

South Northumber­land kept in touch at the top and made a good start at E pp let on, as they totalled 202-6.

Opener Simon Birtwisle made 64 and skipper Adam Cragg hit 51, with Rob Peyton adding 34 not out late on.

The home side then collapsed to 34-4, as Jonathan Wightman ripped up the top order with 4-29, while Lee Croziercla­imed 3-42 and Bi rtw isle claimed 3-18, to bowl them all out for 124.

In Division One, league leadersSun­derland had to settle for a draw, after making 179 all out at Philadelph­ia.

Skipper Greg Applegarth made an excellent 91 from 97 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes.

However, Mayank Mishra claimed 5-28 to clean up the tail.

Phili had Mishra to thank with the bat also, as he top scored with 34.

Joseph Stuart, with an excellent 5-34, tried his best, but the home side managed to hang on at 153-9.

Boldon struggled in their home match against Crook and were 24-4 at one stage.

However, Quinton Boatswainm­ade 38 late on and they declared on 142-9, with Eddie Watson and Will Barnham sharing six wickets.

Visiting skipper Andrew Pratt hammered 74 not out, alongside Daniel Pratt who made 31 not out, as, despite Ethan Elsworth taking 3-22, they won the game by five wickets.

In the Readers Durham & North East Cricket League, Division One leaders Seaham Park won the big game at Esh Winning and increased their lead at the top to 29 points.

They posted 215-6, thanks to skipper Dale Shaw who fired a brilliant 142 not out.

The home side then lost early wickets, but John Carmedy scored 59 to steady the ship, but they ended up 166 all out, with Thomas Ferguson, Dale Shaw, Anthony Watson and John Sample taking two wickets each.

South Shields took advantage of Esh losing and jumped into second place, with a win at Marsden.

They restricted the home side to 114 all out, thanks to Alex Thompson who claimed 3-27, only Ryan Little resisting with 32 runs.

Oliver Stedman then guided his team to a seven-wicket win with 36 not out.

Ushaw Moor scored 116 all out against Dawdon Welfare, with Bryan Potts making 51, as David Coates, Tahir Mahmood and Haider Zaman, each claimed three wickets.

Dawdon wasted no time in chasing down the runs, with openers Steven Gale (51no) and Kit Allen (58no) seeing them to a comfortabl­e 10-wicket win.

Division Two league leaders Seaham Harbour skittled Murton for just 91 runs, as Taylor Vout contribute­d 30, while Jordan Wilson was the pick of the bowling, returning figures of 3-14.

In reply, the home side cantered to victory, as Nisala Gamage scored 45 not out to ease his side to an eight-wicket victory.

Ry hope are still second and were asked to bat first at Tudhoe with opener Paul Jenkin scoring 36 and Sagar Udeshi 32 as they made167 all out.

The home side lost early wickets, but Jonny Hall smashed 40. However, Liam Stores claimed 4-31 and Scott Lawrence 3-4, to bowl them out for 116.

Mains forth in third, won by nine wickets at home to Silksworth. The visitors posted 179-9, thanks to 70 from Con nor Pearson. In reply, Ryan Nicholson hammered 83 not out, alongside Ryan Dawson, who hit 64 not out, to see their side home by nine wickets.

Peterlee are fourth, and they continued their good form with a 100- run win at relegation-threatened Horden.

They posted 195 all out, thanks to 45 from Joseph Spalding and 43 from Hafiz Ale em, while Jon a th on L ons dale claimed 4-40 and Mukhtar Ahmed 3-26.

The hosts could only manage 95 all out, as Andrew Strong took a brilliant 7-19, from just 5.4 overs.
