What was the first job you had after leaving school?

Jill Hendry:

YTS as a Purchase Ledger Clerk in the cash office in Joplings, lots of good memories!

Graham Thompson:

Maintenanc­e fitter in a printers. 35 years later still doing the same but in a different country.

Nic Tempest-Hall:

Weekend work putting leaflets in the Sunderland Echo.

Alfie Mills:

Sunderland CVS. Working with handicappe­d adults. A great experience. Left there, for a permanent job at Wearmouth colliery.

Allwyn Foster:

Draughtsma­n's tracer. I doubt many people will know what that was!

Ingrid Golden:

Had a Saturday job and in Newbles also helped mam with Buffets, Went to Newbles after school for few weeks.

Susan Reid:

Shorthand typist at an accountant­s.

Kieran Henderson:

Working in a nursery now studying my nursing degree.

Claire Morrison:

Springboar­d NVQ1 carers a Little Sisters of the Poor.

Steph Goodall:

Russell and Bromley shoe shop in the metrocentr­e on a Thursday night and a Saturday and Sunday. And a full time YTS at Northern Rock.

Bill Walton:

Stacking shelves at Fine Fayre during college.

Andrea Batty:

Left school on a Friday started work on the Monday Clerical at Alexandra bridge cars, doing car deals and answering the company switch board for salesman, service and parts team.

Susan White:

Shop assistant on a YTS. Never got took on to work in retail since, that was 37 yrs ago, worked mainly doing manual factory work.

Paul Hurt:

Part time Iceland in the bridges, just as it opened in what had been the job centre.

Norman Thubron:

British army, junior soldier. 1967.
