Childhood Saturdays in Sunderland… Where was your favourite place to go?

Justine Farley: The rink at Crowtree leisure centre. Then popping to Parkers chip shop afterwards. ABC cinema was a good place too.

Paula Watson:

Sunderland baths for the wave pool and Seaburn fair for the waltzers, was so much fun.

Janine Mullen: Crowtree ice skating, don't know why they pulled it down, was only decent thing for kids in town.

Bethan Davis: The bowling alley on Newcastle road!

Natalie Ross: Swimming at the leisure centre then upstairs for curry and chips from the cafe.

Carol Bambrough: Away every Saturday with my Jazz Band, The Hylton Castle Guards. Packed lunch off my mam and a shilling pocket money. Happy days!!!

Michael Jones: Josephs toy shop. Spending all me pocket money on matchbox model airplanes and subbeteo bits & bobs.

Cath Breach: The leisure centre, swimming then skating. Followed by a Wimpy.

Pauline Bainbridge: ABC cinema to watch the cartoons on a Saturday morning. 6d to get in 3d busfare x2 . Sometimes I would buy a quarter of Midget gems for thruppence and walk home . A shilling well spent.

Carolyn Mckenzie:

Swimming or ice skating at the leisure centre then the the cafe up the stairs for gravy and chips.

Paul Smith: Crowtree leisure centre. Today's kids don’t have the luxury of a fun swimming baths.

Philip Duffy: Saturday morning at the pictures like a cabaret show for us kids. Cowboy films, cartoons and live music.

Susan Curtis: Disco at the top rank on a Saturday morning.

Tony Sheraton: Backhouse park or Hendon beach great times.
