Comrades surrender a two-goal lead as Redhouse gain first point

Pennywell Comrades let a 2-0 lead slip to draw against Redhouse FC in the Sunderland Sunday League SM91-sponsored Premier Division.

Herring and Winthrop scored but the Redhouse side took advantage of poor play to grab two goals themselves, through Burlinson and O’Neil, to earn their first point of the season.

Lansdowne’s 3-2 defeat by visitors Southwick was a classic for the neutral, as it was end-to-end for the full 90 minutes. James Fairley scored a brace – one of them being one of his usual halfway line efforts which found the net with ease – while Cahill-Taylor got the winner. The hosts had Harry Munday notching two and one of his was also a strike worth rememberin­g.

Grangetown Florists earned their first league win as they beat Washington Sky Lounge 4-2, giving them their 2nd defeat so far. Caffry, Place, Hall and Stevens helped give their side all three points and the visitors had McGeoch and Young respond.

Thorney Close were brought swiftly down to earth after last week’s good display.

They faced Stella Dons, who dismantled them with a 5-0 win. Goals came from Charlton, Young, Osman and a brace from Sweeney.

Last season’s division two sides, Hendon FC and Townend Grange Park, went head to head in the DST Shutters-sponsored First Division. It took a last-minute winner from Jack Devlin to give Townend all three points with a 2-1 win.

Baker had the away side in front but super sub Adam Campbell fired an equaliser late in the game. Devlin, however, had the last laugh with an even later winner.

The Ryhope CW steam train continues to pick up pace after they recorded another high win to move to the top of the league. It finished 6-0 as they blew

Washington New Tavern out of the water.

Robert Page hit two, along with two from Nath Bennett, then Cooper and Ferguson made it six.

Herrington CW will have a say in the final positions in the league come the end of the season after they won convincing­ly 5-0 over The Avenue.

Doubles from singer James Morrison and Lewis Herron had them comfortabl­e but a Tom Clements goal made sure.

A Martin Carr double earned the Queen Vic their second league win with a 2-0 success over The Carpets Centre Elite. Rose shone for the Carpetmen but they couldn’t breach the Vics’ defence.

In the Second Division, sponsored by Ringtone Mobile Phones & Tablets, The Stella were too good on the day against the stalwarts of Myers FC and finished 4-2 winners.

Ryan Priestman hit two,

along with McKenna and Kane. Myers had their local hero Craig Richardson score, then Scott Mould, but the Stella stood strong for the win.

Belmont United showed no mercy over Hall Farm Doxy Lad as their season has started very well in Division Two, with two wins from two.

Nathan Renton finished the game with a hat-trick and Luke Hellen’s popped up with a double for a 5-0 triumph. Hall Farm had Jamie Chappell to thank in goal for keeping the score down.

Oddies had to overcome a 3-1 deficit to take the win eventully against Birtley Town bny 5-3.

Smith, Browne and Cuthbertso­n had Birtley cruising but star man Gaz Tyzack found the net and dragged his team to victory.

Three subs were called on and all found the net – Fisher, Wallace and Cabezas

to give Oddies the lead, then Webster hit his usual effort to ensure victory.

Marley Pots are finding life easy in the Second Division as they beat Ryhope FC with ease by 5-1.

Roper, Holmes, Bulmer, Knowles and Sweeney all scored, with Robbie Middlebroo­k getting on the scoresheet for Ryhope.

The Albion claimed their second set of the points after travelling to beat The Board Inn 4-1.

The home side had Calum Dury score early in the game but the Albion soon took over.

Jamie Carmody scored twice to put his side in front, then Palmer and Dodd increased the lead for the win.

Washington North End 3-1 Washington NE38

A double from Ross Mitchinson and a Connor Scott goal gave Washington North End bragging rights over Washington NE38 as the hosts won 3-1.

Gilbertson replied for the away side but the points were already in the bag.

The Third Division, sponsored by P&D Windows, saw Herrington Stackyard show no mercy to the rejuvenate­d Lakeside team as they hit them with seven unanswered goals.

Joe Jones netted four, Stanness scored one in each half, then super sub Seth Ejukwu hit the last.

Velocity Times Inn 1-2 Wear United

Wear United enjoyed their weekend after a closely-fought 2-1 away win over Velocity Times Inn, which saw their sister and parent clubs all taking maximum points.

Liam Overend and Chris Sproat were on hand to scored for United and Ackroyd got Velocity’s goal.

A surprising 1-1 draw was played out between hosts Velocity United and

The Broadway, both of whom have heavy firepower in their ranks.

Mutch found the net for United and Laidler levelled things for the Broadway.

Fourth Division spons by Colin Archbold Painters & Decorators

Millview are still in search for their first league points in the Fourth Division, sponsored by Colin Archbold Painters & Decorators.

Aand they will have to wait a little longer as visitors Golden Fleece swept them aside in a 7-2 win.

Ireton and Conlin kept Millview interested with early goals but the Fleece were on their game and took all three points in style.

They had counters from Thompson, Outhwaite, Marley, and doubles from Cavanagh and Lawson.

Penshaw Wanderers look to be the team to beat in Division Four as they chalked up another win, hammering the poor Washington Cherry Tree 8-0.

Jack Ramsden bagged a treble then Kelsey and Adam Smith double scored braces, after which a further effort from English put the Cherries to bed.

Humbledon PF scored another eight goals to take their tally in two games to 18 so far in the Fifth Division, sponsored by Cosmic Blinds.

The time it was Hetton FC who were put to the sword.

Morton netted Hetton’s only goal but plaudits went to Callum Brown, who found the net three times, then Baker, Wilson, Pilkington and a couple from Danny Wright all fired past Michael Hayes between the sticks.

The Wheelhouse took full advantage of the AFC Washington SL side losing their goalkeeper, who was giving his marching orders early in the game.

The home side managed to hit 12, with no reply from Washington, with Brett Spencelay scoring seven of them.

Thoburn, James, Harding and two from Mick Wilson rounded off the scoring.
