STORY:

New road safety measures have been welcomed in a Sunderland neighbourhood – though its representatives have vowed to keep up their campaign to curb dangerous drivers. Several new trafficcalming measures have been put in place across the St Michael’s ward in Sunderland, designed to make roads in the ward safer. "The fixed camera will hopefully act as a strong deterrent against those who seek to break the speed limit, making our communities roads more dangerous for everyone."

Darren Frankland: Speed cameras do absolutely nothing for road safety what a waste of time.

Roddy Macpherson:

Bernadette Breen, I couldn't agree more.

Let's have some decent speed bumps, and I never thought I would ever say that. The people who imagine they are on a motorway need to be airborne just before they destroy their suspension. That is preferable to destroying a fence or a life which will happen if the problem is ignored for much longer. Twenty four hour surveillance would show much more than a smiley face camera.

Jan Bird: Burdon Road in Ryhope is like the A19 and weekends it's the Grand Prix, all we get is a visit by a mobile unit weekly and 20 and 30 painted on the roads, not to mention the noise!

Liam Quinan: There’s enough pot holes on our roads to act as speed bumps anyways….. plus cameras are pointless too as people just slow down and then speed up again, the only thing that will fix these issues is cobbled streets, no one wants to speed over cobbles, it’s annoying and your car doesn’t like it and you can’t just drive between them.

Bridget Kearney: Need them on Warwick Tce West coming up to Blind Lane like a race track. lots of ppl been run over, they don't even stop at the crossing sometime, they go round the people crossing over, busy on their phones.

Ted Martin: Avalon Road, Farringdon, definitely needs one!

Linda Bosher: Need them on Church Street North it's used like a race track.

Ste Whiteoak: Kind of ironic this used to be the road that began and ended your driving test in Sunderland.
