Dawdon Welfare Park get back to winning ways with easy victory

Havingsuff­eredacrush­ing5-2 openingday­SSKRecruit­ment Peterlee and District Sunday League defeat against Shotton Comrades, last season’s runners-up Dawdon Welfare Park, bounced back in style.

Welfare eased to victory over Easington Lane WMC, winning 4-0, thanks to goals from Andrew Beer, Niall Crosby, Robbie Bird and Paul Atkinson.

Catholic Club, made it two wins from two when they got the better over Murton Colliery FC in a nine-goal encounter, winning 6-3, with two goals apiece from Josh Home Jackson and Joshua Broom with Gary Shaw and Scott Thompson also finding the target.

In the only First Division match played, a close match saw Seaham Parkside defeat SherburnUn­ited2-1withgoals from Dean Bulmer and Sean Rollin,withChrisY­oungreplyi­ng for the Sherburn outfit.

Most of the remaining clubs were involved in the first preliminar­y round of the Durham County Sunday Cup and the highest scorers on the day was South Hetton Cricket Club who hammered Sunderland Albion 10-2 thanks to a four timer from Liam Rissen, two goals from Karl Anderson, with further goals from Asa Lockhurst, Mark Hartley, Liam Watson, and Jay Ramshaw.

Seaham Marlboroug­h were also in a goal scoring feast when they put nine past Stockton Queen Vic in a 9-1 win, with two goals apiece from Chris Dormand and Tony Little while Peterlee Acre Rigg Social Club bowed out of the competitio­n when they lost 4-0 against Newton Aycliffe Sports.

A brace from Ian Harriman helped Easington Mechanics to progress at the expense of Newton Aycliffe Big Club, eventually winning 4-1, while Easington Southside

who finished 3-3 with Dubmire WMC with goals from Michael Fox, Michael Taylor and Lewis Corfield and then went on to win the penalty shoot out 5-4.

A strike from Tom Williams was not enough for Easington Victory when they ended 90 minutes at 1-1 against Darlington RA but lost a penalty shoot out.

Easington Colliery Welfare wasted little time in making progress after hammering Hilda Park FC 7-1 with Liam Adamson notching four goals and Eppleton FC moved on following their 4-2 win against Birtley Town.
