STORY:

Roker’s new gin bar is set to have one of the best views in the city as work progresses on transforming a disused Victorian site. The unit in Pier View has had many guises over the years, including as a tram shed and a toilet block, but has stood empty since the new public toilets were created opposite Roker beach. Now, it’s undergoing a huge transformation to become a Tin of Sardines bar, a sister site to the successful Tin of Sardines in Durham City, which has built up a firm following since opening as, what’s believed to be, the world’s smallest gin bar.

Trevor Miller: Great to see money spent on attracting people to the sea front Seaburn and Roker were as before kiosks and stalls for air show and lights show for four weeks and then gone, money can be taken all year round attract families to the coastline, we have still loads more to do Sunderland and proud.

Deborah Pickersgill: Looks great!

Pat Seadog McCardl:

"The view is absolutely fantastic and really reminds me of my home town of Poole,” said the businessman. Must have been a long, long time since he was in Poole then, the only resemblance is

that the sea is salty.

Iain Mcintosh: Ben Davis brilliant work marra.

Michael Hartnack:

Sunderland Council now approving the building of more houses than the housing needs assessment requires. They are approving the building of them in unsuitable locations that the public simply don’t want, when we have derelict land and buildings across the City, which could be developed and improve both areas and communities. This Labour-controlled Council is simply clueless in respect of the development of our City and the wellbeing of our citizens. Pleased to note that Conservative councillors voted against this development.

Mario Jaconelli: Michael Hartnack, the negativity astounds me and has held this city back for years. Can you confirm where these derelict areas are which you refer to?

Ian Daggett: This is unacceptable.
