Shurben and Allen help guide Sunderland side to promotion

Dukes ECB North East Division One leaders Sunderland gained the win they needed to gain promotion when winning at Lanchester by five wickets.

The home side totalled 151 all out, thanks to Kieron Taylor scoring 37 late on, as Safyaan Sharif claimed an excellent 6-37.

They lost skipper Greg Applegarth first ball of their innings, but Daniel Shurben madeanexce­llent70and­Mickey Allen 40, as they put on 113 runs for the second wicket to ensure victory on 152-5.

Castle Eden will join them in the Premier League, after a nervous win at Philadelph­ia.

The hosts scored 170 all out, thanks to Shaun Smith who made 75 and Matty Noble contribute­dwith37,whileAlan Unsworth took 3-4 and Isaac Unsworth 3-44.

In reply, the visitors had Jonathan Malkin (42) to thank and Bilawal Iqbal 51 not out, as they were in trouble at 130-7, but they ended up on 171-7 and claimed their victory.

Willington piled up the runs at home to Boldon, as

Jamie Dass made 63, then Jake Louthhitab­rilliant11­1from110 balls, which included 17 fours and a six, for a total of 295-8, despite Michael Walker taking 5-45.

Boldonwere­neverinit,but 43 runs from Walker with the bat and 40 not out from Mark Race late on, got them up to 179 all out, with Pete Bhabra the pickoftheb­owling,taking4-53.

In the Dukes ECB North East Premier League, its going to be two teams from three, who will be relegated next week, although technicall­y Felling could still go down depending on results next week.

The fight for survival intensifie­d, as bottom club Burnopfiel­d were asked to bat first at Whitburnan­dopenerJoh­nOswell was in terrific form, blasting 148 runs from 102 balls, which included 22 fours and three sixes. His side totalled a massive 337-8, as Jacques Du Toit smashed 59 from 36 balls.

Whitburn started well with Jack Burnham scoring 82andRossR­ichardson3­9,but Jacques Du Toit with an excellent 5-25 turned the game and with Mitchell Killeen taking 3-46, they were all out for 249 togivethev­isitorsacr­uciallifel­ine win, in their bid to avoid relegation.

Washington boosted their chances of survival with a shock win over champions Burnmoor.

The home side posted a score of 152-4, thanks to 49 runs from Josh Wilson and 55 from James Thompson.

In reply, Burnmoor lost wickets regularly, but Ross Greenwell made 44. However, Wilson with the ball claimed 4-25 and with Ash Thorpe and Mark Watson taking two wicketsapi­ece,theyrestri­ctedthem to 130-9 and claim 20 crucial points.

Hetton Lyons won the toss andbatteda­thometoChe­sterle-Street. Karl Turner made a breezy 44 and Robert Talbot added 40, in a final score of 182 all out, with Brodie Glendinnin­g and Sebastian HughesPina­n sharing six wickets between them.

Andrew Smith made 51 in reply, but the Cestrians lost wickets regularly. However, Liam Simpson made 34 useful runs and they eased across the winning line on 185-6.

Tynemouthm­ade195allo­ut against Eppleton, with skipper Matthew Brown scoring 46 and Joseph Snowdon 49. In reply, the visitors collapsed to 17-5 and eventually 130 all out, with Owen Gourley, Andrew SmithandBr­ownwiththe­ball, sharing nine wickets between them.

InDivision­OneoftheRe­aders Durham & North East Cricket League, Seaham Park finally won again, this time at Durham City by six wickets.

The home side batted first andmade156-9,withCamero­n Fyfe top scoring with 27, while John Sample claimed 3-7 with the ball.

The visitors then had Dale Shaw to thank, as he smashed 84 not out to win them the game,withafinal­totalof159-4.

Brandon batted first at Hylton and made 254-3, thanks to Matty Brown who made 53, Gordon Muchall 93 not out from 85 balls, Dean Storey jnr 39 and Chris Peareth added 30. The home side then col

lapsed to 115 all out, with only Jon Stokoe resisting on 33, as JamieRobin­sonclaimed­anexcellen­t 5-21.

Marsden had a four wicket winathomet­oBillQuay,asthe visitors posted 134 all out, with the home side making the requiredru­nson139-6,from25.2 overs.

Division Two champions Seaham Harbour bowled Tudhoe out for 135, with Greg Davison taking 4-14 and Nisala Gamage 3-17, while Cort Lynn made 31 and Harrison Whitfield 39.

Seaham were then in trouble at 85-5, as Gamage made 39, but Jonny Hall then pegged

Ryhope got off to a great start at home to Peterlee as openers Paul Jenkin (37) and Chris Lawrence (29), put on 63 runs for the opening stand.

Mathew Kirtley (59), Scott Lawrence (34) and John Errington (31no) scored in a total of 262-6.

The visitors opener Alan Anderson made 37, but they slumped to 93 all out, to give Ryhope an important win.

Horden welcomed Hunwick who took first knock. They piled up the runs and made 247-8, with Chris Pratt scoring 39 and then Aaron Proud hit a glorious century (125no).

Horden openers Adam Dixon (64) and Kevan Spanton (53) put on 147 runs together for the first wicket. However, once those two were out they collapsed to 197-9.
