Detached feel we can’t be beaten at home, says Liam

Farringdon Detached manager Liam Lay wants to make the most of home comforts to keep his side at the top of the Wearside League table.

Out-of-sorts Washington United will be the latest visitors looking to take something from Leyburn Grove this weekend.

Their hopes are not helped by their own poor form and the fact they travel to face a Farringdon side that have won all five games on their own patch this season.

The latest of those wins came in midweek as they edged a seven-goal thriller against Darlington Town - but Lay insisted that dramatic victory will count for nothing without another three points on Saturday.

He told The Echo: “It was a good win against Darlington because they’re a good side but if we don’t take the points against Washington United, it really means nothing.

“People know everyone is good in this league, we have to show the right attitude to win and we feel like we can’t be beaten at home.

“Hopefully we can carry that on on Saturday."

Jordan Southern will hope to continue his fine return from a six-month injury lay-off after scoring three goals in his last three games.

Silksworth CW host Darlington Town on Saturday and manager Jamie Cole is looking to improve on a run

of just one win in their last five games in all competitions.

Their visitors will hope to avoid a third consecutive defeat - and Cole is “very wary” of what his depleted side will face on Saturday.

He said: “For all we lost

last week at Chester-leStreet, we are hoping for the same workrate this weekend.

“I am very wary of Darlo, they have lost their last two now and they will want to get back to winning ways.”

Elsewhere on Saturday, a knee injury will keep midfielder Matthew Smith out of Durham Corinthians’ home game against Wolviston.

Two of the top four meet at the Recreation Ground as second-placed Shotton Colliery entertain Gateshead Leam Rangers, and Coxhoe Athletic go looking for their first win of the season at Windscale.

There are two Monkwearmouth Charity Cup Round One ties as FC Hartlepool visit Norton and Stockton Ancients, and Annfield Plain host Darlington RA at Derwent Park.
