STORY

Who was your favourite teacher at school and why did they have such an impact on you?

Lauren Charlton: Mr Curtis at Hastings Hill Primary. Always made schooling fun, the friendliest, nicest head teacher ever.

Helen Moffatt:

My primary school teacher said to me, if you end up working in a shop, something’s gone wrong somewhere. At the age of 30, I was working in a shop when I saw her walk past. I remembered her wise words, quit work and went to Uni. At 34, I had my degree.

Jacqui Henderson: Mr Harry Milne, headmaster of Fulwell junior school taught us good manners and respect. Loved him. He told brilliant stories and was firm but fair.

Karen Edwards:

Mr Hunter at Witherwack Primary, he was the best ever respected him so much, also Mrs Collins my teacher and our netball coach loved her.

Emma Swanson-Lloyd:

Mr Sunderland (great name) Ryhope Comp said to me if I don't become a writer he would eat his hat. I'm a published poet now and one day I will write that novel, I loved him.

Kirsty Richardson: Phil Rodgers, an absolute legend! We won Farringdon sports day, very rare occasion for my primary school! All down to his commitment and coaching! We will never forget it!

Janice Moore: Mr Rutter, he was a great teacher, (Usworth Colliery) who brought his own special enthusiasm, and it was catching.

Keith Purvis: Peter Baldwin treated everyone with respect and compassion no matter what your age or background. He just always knew.

Marie Gair: Mrs Hemy, (she taught home economics and child development) such a kind selfless woman who always had time for me. Would love to see her again.

Jackie Dorn: Mr Gormley South Hylton Primary School headteacher. Very strict but was one of the very best.

Phillip Judson: Mrs Hughes from Southwick Primary School, 30 years on and now her daughter has taught mine.
