Donation hits right note with musicians
Young musicians have been given a £1,000 boost by a building firm.
Community interest group We Make Culture – makes music workshops and performances available to vulnerable children and young people – was selected by Persimmon Homes Durham to receive the cash from the firm’s Building Futures initiative.
Laura Brewis – who runs the group,whichworks in Sunderland and
South Tyneside – said: “Over the last year we have worked with more than 500 children and young people and we are delighted to have been gifted these funds.
"It will support our project supporting care-experienced young people, kinship carers and young people in families experiencing domestic violence.”
The Building Futures schemeaimstosupportcommunity groups working with under-18sinthreecategories – education and arts, health and sport.
Richard Cook, managing director for Persimmon HomesDurham,said:“Young people are at the heart of all our futures, and we are fortunate to be able to provide support and help create positive outcomes through our Building Futures campaign.”
Building Futures will make donations to grassroots sports groups, charities dealing with physical and mental health issues andcommunityartsandeducation projects.
Three initiatives will also go on to win £100,000 each through a national online public vote. The winners will be named at a grand final in November.
