Charity says silence won’t stop violence

-

A crime-fighting charity is calling on people in the North East to turn in people who carry weapons.

Crimestoppers says violent crime remains a persistent but preventable problem and has launched an appeal where people can, anonymously, give information on people who take weapons out on the streets.

Last year, 275 people lost their lives to a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales and 4,620 people were admitted to hospital.

Ruth McNee, regional manager for Crime stoppers, said: “With violence and gang crime being a persistent, but preventable problem, our charity is re launching our Silence Won’t Stop Violence campaign.

"We are encouraging people in the North East – who are in the know about those carrying weapons or involved in violent crime – to not be silenced, but to speak up anonymously.”

“Our aim is to drive people to report what they know about violent crime incidents or planned attacks using our unique anonymous reporting service.

“People can report offenders – in total anonymity.”

The charity’ s reporting procedure is 100% anonymous.

Computer IP addresses are never traced and there is no caller display for telephone calls, no 1471 facility and the charity has never traced a call.

To report what you know about crime 100% anonymously, visit the charity’ s website Crimestoppers-uk.org and fill in a secure anonymous online form.

People can also call it’s 24/7 UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111, 365 days of the year. In an emergency, always call 999.

People can also find advice and use an anonymous online form at Fearless.org
