More than 100 jobs could be created by plans to build a 30-bedroom specialist care home on the site of a former social club.

Sarah Cook: Don’t see the need in building more when I know of at least two that are empty which were purpose built. Buildings less than 15 years old sitting empty and people crying out for care spaces. The reason for low staffing levels across the board in care is because there isn’t the funds for retaining staff.

Jim Ward: They demolished a new purpose built care home in Houghton and built houses a total waste of a care home.

Stuart Porthouse:

Excellent use of derelict land. Some of the comments amaze me the developer will not be investing large sums if there was not a need.

Wendy Hall: Why build a new home when there is some empty in Sunderland?

Carol Ross: Sadly I imagine it will be private care home and care payments.

Phil Carr: Spend the money on the roads they are a disgrace.

Craig Williamson: Why would a private healthcare company spend money on roads? Surely that’s the Council and has absolutely nothing to do with this.

Graham Hill: Why a new build when there are care homes sitting empty?

Tracy Dawson: Need more staff in the ones that are struggling now.

Peter Crosier: Try getting the staff we've just shut because of staff.

Charmayne Tomlinson:

About time something was done to that land. It's been stood derelict for a long time.

Marlene Emmerson: There must be money to be made on it otherwise it wouldn't be getting done.

Paul Thompson: Sounds promising in theory.

Craig Williamson: Just because the home you’re in doesn’t have 100 staff it doesn’t mean this one won’t.
