Durham City have next three games suspended

-

The Ebac Northern League have confirmed they have suspended Durham City’s next three fixtures – pending the payment of a bond.

The Division Two strugglers have endured a torrid start to the season and sit at the bottom of the second tier with just one point from their opening nine games of the season.

Former manager Peter Mulcaster departed the club in the aftermath of the 10-0 defeat they suffered at Sunderland West End earlier this month and the Citizens moved to name Mark Sherwood as his replacement last weekend.

However, with a raft of player unavailability and departures wreaking havoc with their squad, Tuesday night’s scheduled visit to Carlisle City was postponed.

The league have now moved to support the club further and “protect the integrity of the competition” by coming to an agreement with the club to cancel upcoming fixtures against Horden CW, Tow Law Town and Easington Colliery.

The Citizens have until Friday, October 1, to submit a bond and that will be repaid at the end of the season if they fulfil their fixtures for the campaign.

A statement from the Northern League released yesterday said the decision follows a request from the club to re-arrange its match against Carlisle City earlier this week (Tuesday, September 21). This is the second time that such a request has been made to the league.

“If the bond is lodged, the fixtures against Horden CW, Tow Law Town and Easington Colliery (along with the fixture against Carlisle City) will be re-arranged,” the league statement added.
