Cole left to rue lack of control as Silksworth lose at Washington

-

Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole admitted his players “lost all control of the game” in their defeat at Washington United.

Cole’s side were expected to continue their solid start to the Wearside League First Division season with a win at Nissan Sports Complex.

However, two goals from Reece Blakey were not enough to deny their out-ofform hosts.

A Jay Roper brace and a goal apiece from Josh Moody and Matthew Rowan helped United to only their third league win of the campaign – and left Cole to deliver an honest opinion on his own side’s performance.

He said: “We controlled the first-half and went in with a 2-1 lead, but it was almost as if we stayed in the changing rooms for the second-half.

“We lost all control of the game and we gifted them three goals.

“I can take nothing away from Washington, they stuck to their own game and worked a lot harder than us after half-time.”

Farringdon Detached remained in touch with the top of the table – although they were grateful for a late equaliser from Stan Ogunsuyi in their draw at FC Hartlepool.

A Sam Cook penalty looked to have given the hosts all three points at Grayfields, until Ogunsuyi pounced deep in second-half injury-time to earn a share of the spoils for his side.

Darlington Town produced a fine comeback to move to the top of the table after their 5-3 home win against Durham Corinithians.

Cameron Arthurs, Thomas Young and Steven Telford all scored to give Corinthians a three-goal advantage at half-time.

But Town rallied and claimed a win thanks to a John Jacob Wood brace and a goal apiece from Declan Brown, James Wilson and substitute Ryu Williamson.

Shotton Colliery lie in fourth place after a Michael Robson penalty and a Nathan Grainger goal helped them to a fine 2-0 home win against Chester-le-Street United.

Matt Metcalf scored for Windscale as their improved form was temporarily halted by a 1-1 home draw against Richmond Town, while goals from Myles Swift and Gareth McMahon gave West Auckland Tunns a 2-1 win against bottom-of-the-table Coxhoe Athletic.
