Time to Chalk up a victory at Ascot

-

Chalk Stream can continue his upward trajectory with Listed glory in the Harrogate Water B Corp Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot tomorrow.

Winner of four of his seven outings this term for William Haggas, Chalk Stream has enjoyed a rapid ascent in the ratings and now takes this step up in class off a mark of 105.

That leaves him with something to find with Scope, but his progressive profile makes plenty of appeal and there was much to like about his most recent victory at this track. With handicap wins at York and Ripon under his belt, Chalk Stream brought up the hat-trick in style as he cruised home by the best part of five lengths despite having to chart wide route in the early stages.

Chalk Stream switches up to a mile and six furlongs for the first time here, but he certainly was not stopping over 12 furlongs and appears to have a fair bit of improvement left in the locker.

Haggas and jockey Tom Marquand can make it double on the card with Bartzella in the Troy Asset Management Novice Stakes.

A Goodwood winner at the end of August, she was sent off a 1-5 favourite to follow up at Thirsk in mid-September but proved disappointing when beaten into third.

Marquand reported she had slipped at one point in the race, so perhaps it is best to give this choicely-bred Golden Horn filly the benefit of the doubt.

Prop Forward moves to handicap company in search of his treble for Clive Cox.

A maiden winner at Bath in August, he followed up with a novice success at Wolverhampton at the end of August, where he ran out a stylish two-and-three-quarter-length victor.

A starting mark of 87 in the Design Work Studios Handicap could prove generous as this son of Iffraaj appears to be a horse on the up.

A gelding operation seems to have had the desired effect on Tasfeeq as he has won two of three starts since his return to action in August.

Marcus Tregoning’s charge had won one of five previous outings and possibly just needed the run when fourth on his initial outing.

Tasfeeq has not looked back since though, triumphing in gutsy style at Newmarket at the end of August before following up at Bath last time.

He made all that day and was pretty impressive as his rider never really had to get too serious with him, eventually passing the post with three and a quarter lengths to spare. Tasfeeq should hold every chance in the Racing To School Classified Stakes.

Able Kane tackles the Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs Handicap rather than a bigger event in Berkshire on Saturday and the decision can reap dividends for Rod Millman.
