Mother is best shout for a win at Market

-

Mother Earth can add a third Group One to her record in the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.

Aidan O’Brien’s runner circles back to where her year began with a narrow Classic verdict over the reopposing Saffron Beach in the 1000 Guineas. Just a length separated the pair that day and Mother Earth has not looked back since, running with credit in the French Guineas and the Coronation Stakes, before being edged out by another returning rival, Snow Lantern, in the Falmouth Stakes when she was a bit tight for room at a crucial stage.

Mother Earth then got her head back in front in a competitive edition of the Prix Rothschild, but she was very unfortunate last time out when only third in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

Sent off favourite, Mother Earth just could not find a gap when push came to shove, with No Speak Alexander emerging a length-and-a-half winner as Ryan Moore conceded defeat before the line.

Mother Earth should turn around that form here and while this race was not originally on her agenda, she is a top-class competitor who can go on any ground.

Piffle is the pick in the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes. Winner of her last two starts, she could be a decent price in what is always a competitive heat.

Ascot has some fine Group and Listed action on offer, with Glen Shiel given a good opportunity to get off the mark for the season in the John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes. The seven-year-old has been batting at the highest level again this term, with his best effort coming when second to Dream Of Dreams in the Diamond Jubilee in June.

Glen Shiel drops back to Group Three company here and any rain that falls will also help his chance of recording a first victory since landing the British Champions Sprint here last October.

Title seems to be on an upward curve and can secure a first Group Three verdict in the ABF/BGC Cumberland Lodge Stakes.

Beaten four lengths by Arc runner Alenquer in the King Edward VII, Title then hit the bar in Listed company at Hamilton and connections took the decision to geld him after that run.

That may have been a smart move as Title bolted up on his handicap bow off a mark of 103 at Doncaster in September and his revised rating of 110 puts him right in the mix given his three-yearold allowance.

Hurricane Ivor has seemingly returned to the kind of form that saw him highly regarded in his juvenile days and he can concede weight all round in the Oakman Group Rous Stakes.
