A fine mess for Stanley as slick Seaham score seven

- By Vince Williams nep.sport@jpimedia.co.uk @SundelandEcho

Seaham travelled to Stanley hoping to maintain the pressure on the leaders at the top of Division One of the Sunderland & District Over-40s League.

It was an evenly contested first 20 minutes, with neither side giving an inch. Both goalkeepers were tested without a goal really being threatened.

Sea ham took the lead after 25 minutes as forward Turner scored his 15th goal of the season. However, the hosts hit back immediately to level the scores.

Sea ham then went straight up the other end and got their noses back in front, thanks to Thai Taylor.

The hosts then struck the Sea ham post. From the clearance,Sea ham forward Turner was put straight through and duly dispatched.

It was the visitors who started brightly after the restart but Turner completed his hat-trick and the fifth was soon to arrive. Punsh on struck the bar but the rebound fell kindly for Pin de rt of ire home. It was all Seaham after that and Pinder netted his second minutes later.

Seaham's Milner then capped a fine display by scoring his first ever goal to complete the 7-1 victory.

The win was enough for Seaham to take top spot.

In Division One, Hartlepool Jacksons Arms had a comfortable 4-1 home win against North Shields Pineapple.

In the Premier, a 4-1 away defeat for Hartlepool F CB lu es flattered S her burn Village but they travelled with only 12 and suffered because of that.

In Division Two, Hartlepool Cricket Club lost 5-2 at Sunderland Mill View.

The first half saw Cricket really good with the ball and really poor without it.

They went ahead with some great play. Bob Smith laid the ball back for Matty Taylor to send a lovely ball out wide for Scotty Newbegin.

He powered forward and squared the ball for Stuart Hope to score from close in.

They went 3-1 down after a 15-minute spell of really poor play, and 4-1 down before getting back into it with a penalty.

Hope was bundled over and Newbegin lashed in the spot kick.

The second half saw both teams threaten before Mill scored their fifth late on.

Hartlepool Raby Arms entertainedPeter lee H el ford but went on to lose 4-0.

Washington EMS continue to struggle for a full squad and good performances and drew 0-0 at home to newly-promoted Blyth Masons Arms.

The first half was very dour with neither team creatingmany chances. There were more goal efforts in the second half, with Burns hitting the bar for Washington and Bryson missing a great header.

Lowly Roseberry Hilda Park claimed a vital 3-2 win when they entertained top of the league Grind on Broadway.

Grindon never got out of the starting blocks and Roseberry soon scored but, minutes later, Cliff equalised.

In the second half, Grindon weren't much better and Roseberry duly took the lead once again.

With three minutes to go, Grindon were awarded a penalty, which Griffiths scored, but Roseberry hung on to win 3-2.

A typical game of two halves saw both Willow Pond and Catchgate squander chance after chance, so a draw was probably a fair result.

Catchgate had a series of corners and Pond looked disjointed. Pond ‘keeper Andy Tilbury saved two shots from close range from Catchgate's Kevin Douglas.

Catchgate eventually took a deserved lead when Keith Coulter struck the ball home from inside the box after good work from Douglas.

The start of the second half should have seen Catchgate double their lead when Alan Robinson powered into the box but he sent his effort over the goal with Tilbury beaten.

Catchgate eventually succumbed to the pressure of the home side attacks by Anthony Lock, David Kelly and Shahab Makvandi, which produced corners.

Steve Jamieson whipped into the far post for substitute Gareth Vincent, who rose above the pack to head home the equaliser.

Pond rued missed chances by Kelly and Martin Lee to take the lead and Humphries made a great save from a Kelly shot in the box. Catchgate keeper Humphries somehow pulled off a double save from Pond's David Hoey and Lock. Pond striker Lee found himself with space in the box but Humphriessav ed his shot and Lock followed up but hit his shot wide. October 2 fixtures:
