Lockdown is out – adventure is in
58% of Brits more adventurous after pandemic eases
Anew study has found three in five Britons say they are more ‘adventurous’ now after lockdown with 58 per cent of people becoming more outgoing following the pandemic. Research undertaken by www.cardschat.com poker experts explored changes in our habits from pre-pandemic life. They conducted a study where more than 2,100 UK adults were polled on their habits before the first national lockdown compared with now, since many restrictions have been lifted.
It was initially found that more than three quarters of Britons (76 per cent) believe that their lifestyle has changed post-lockdown, when compared with pre-pandemic. A further 59 per cent of respondents feel that they have been more adventurous post-lockdown by taking part in new activities.
When asked how, the most common answers were ‘saying yes more’ (27 per cent), ‘doing new activities’ (19 per cent) and ‘trying new foods’ (17 per cent).
Spokeswoman for www. cardschat.com, Debi O’Neil, said: “Given that most of the country has spent the majority of the past 18 months cooped up inside – unable to see friends or family – it is not surprising that the British public are feeling more adventurous now given that the various lockdowns are over.
“The obvious downside is the additional costs of going out more, but I think it’s fair to say that we all deserve a bit of a treat after the year that we have had, especially after seeing that 79 per cent of people say it’s made them happier.”
There is no doubt that life during lockdown has been challengingnot being able to visit friends and family or see loved ones has left many feeling alone and pessimistic.
This goes beyond the fact of there being a lack of shops, activities and social interactions which has dampened the way we communicate and interact with others. It is no wonder
that many have now prioritised their time, wellbeing and overall health- including the need to build more cemented relationships with those around them.
However, lockdown has also led many to discover their passion and what they truly love to do- as well as new hobbies to enjoy and spend their time in.
When experts questioned the reasons that they had become more adventurous after the lockdown, two thirds of respondents (65 per cent) said it was down to not being able to do anything for the past year, with a further 17 per cent attributing it to having more money to spend.
Those that have become more adventurous post-lockdown were asked if this has led to them spending more money, to which most (83 per cent) said this was the case. Most people found that living the adventurous lifestyle was not at all cheap, and came with a heavy price to pay. However, many enjoyed the freedom and liberty which came with the wild, outgoing lifestyle.
When asked to estimate how much the ‘adventurous activities’ were costing per month, the average answer came out at £120.
