Update on plans to replace Sunderland’s ‘disgraceful’ train station with impressive new building.

Tony Patterson: Use the station a lot and travel all over the country and to be honest it’s totally embarrassing compared with other stations around the country, so bring it on.

Pam Todd: So excited about this. Can't wait to see it. I use the Metro/ trains a lot.

Keith Wood: I am not impressed at all by the proposed new railway station. For £26 million we could do so much better than this.

Dot Punshon: Fingers crossed, not even a loo there.

Kelly Senior: Whilst I welcome the investment with open arms as a regular user of Sunderland station I’m shocked that they’re planing to spend so much money on the existing site. Giving the surface building a makeover won’t cut it! The platform area is dismal and needs much improvement. A larger train station with more parking and easier access would be much better placed at Park Lane using the old Civic Centre sight. Come on Council leaders you can do better than this!

Tracey Hudson: Great to see some decent new shops on Mackies Corner. Jus tneed the rest of Sunderland upgrading to go with it.

Tony Ratton: Ticket office moves to the north end of the station in January.

Melanie Thornton: If you read the article it states demolition starts December 2021, with completion in 2023. Millions of pounds being spent in Sunderland City centre at the moment, huge changes are being made

Diana Lambton: Nice. They should extend the bridges to cover Blandford Street, it's totally run down and the town centre looks nothing like a city centre, it still looks like a small town, even Middlesbrough has a more impressive town centre.

Sarah Rouxel: Will still be some modern eyesore that will be outdated and tired in a few years, just like the bus station!

Lynn Roberts: It looks lovely.
