Five clubs through to first round of Durham County Sunday Cup

In the third preliminar­y round of the SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday Football League’s Durham County Sunday Cup, five clubs made progress to the first round proper.

Ea sing ton Colliery Welfare were one of the clubs to progress, after a 5-3 win against Hartlepool WHTDSOB, with Li am Cooke their goal-scoring hero with four of their goals and Liam Adamson also finding the back of the net.

Goals from Jack Naylor, Ryan Dinsdale and Ross La undonenab led Rose berry Park to beat C hilton and Wind le stone 3-0. E pp let on hammered Bishop Middle ham 12-0 to reach the next round.

Five goals from Thomas Bott, along with a brace from Michael Stuart, plus efforts from Dan Foster and Ryan Douglas, saw Easington Mechanics enjoy a 9-1 win over Newton Aycliffe Roundhouse.

Two goals from Jordan Williams saw Ea sing ton Welfare win 4-0 against East Boldon Beggars Bridge.

Of the clubs bowing out of the competitio­n, Seaham Parkside lost a penalty shootout 5-3 after finishing 90 minutes all square at 3-3 against Downhill Free Gardeners, and Haswell Oddfellows suffered a 10-2 defeat at Middleton Rangers. Wingate Howden lost 6-1 to Middleton Wanderers.

In the first round of the George Ivey Memorial Cup, goals from Jack Gorman, Stephen Fairless, Callum Peacock and sub Taylor Evans saw Peterlee Hearts beat Inn Between Seaham 4-3.

Of the league matches that took place, in the Premier Division, Horden JD’s Bar continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table after their promotion last season and they suffered an 8-0 defeat to Dawdon Welfare Park. A Luke Atkinson hat-trick, a brace from Denver Morris and efforts from Robbie Bird, Andrew Beer and Nicolas Mi lb urn accounted for that tally.

Goals from Luke Thompson and Liam Appleby paved the way for Murton Colliery to beat Ea sing ton Lane WMC.

In the other match played in the division, two goals from Brandon Cook and one from Matthew Johnson gave South Hetton Cricket Club a 3-0 win over Shotton Comrades.

In the First Division, a goal from Matthew Griffiths proved sufficient for Sherburn United to beat Seaham Oddfellows Arms. Easington Southside claimed a 6-2 derby win against Easington Victory.
