A Wearside village has a new community hub – aimed at bringing people together.

Heart on the Terrace has been opened in Mu rt on as part of Durham Diocese’s ‘Communities of Hope’ project – a series of support networks across the North East aimed at bringing self-sufficiency, activities and services, to communities.

The hub, which officially opened in Wood's Terrace East, on October 9, is hosting a number of supportive groups, ranging from ‘Stay and Play’ for parents and their pre-schoolers to ‘Heart full of Memories’, in which people can socialise.

Cooking sessions run every Wednesday and weekly pan try sessions will offer subsidised food, clothes and toys.

The Right Reverend Sarah Clark, Bishop of Jarrow said: “The sense of community in Murton is extremely strong, however, experiences such as social isolation and economic hardship are also very real here. That’s why Heart on the Terrace, where people can come together and feel a sense of community and belonging, is so important.

“Here in Murton, people have gathered together from all parts of the community, seeking to bring light into the lives of people who are living through dark times.”

Food and supplies are being supported through a collaboration with Morrison’s local Community Champion – Stephanie Carrel.

Stephanie helps provide food for the pantry, baby resources

like nappies and wipes and volunteers to help with specific events.

All the supplies are provided by their local Morrison sin Dalton Park.
